Taking photos of yourself isn’t always easy as a solo traveler. You can ask a bystander to take the picture for you, but those are often the worst pictures, except if you’re lucky to catch someone with a great eye or they are willing to listen to your instructions on how to take the photo. You can take a selfie, but most of the time it only shows your face and it’s way too close, so you’ll look fat and malformed. And honestly, I don’t like the standard selfie at all.
It’s not easy to escape the crowds in Madeira. It is a popular tourist destination in Europe, especially for people who love to hike. So it’s no surprise a lot of tourists can be found at its best known sites and walking routes. Fortunately this doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy Madeira’s nature in its purest form with no one else around. If you are well prepared, it’s easy to escape the crowds.
