Santorini on a budget almost sounds like an impossible thing to do. It is the last place you think about when traveling on a budget. Unlike the rest of Greece (except for Mykonos) it is a very expensive destination to stay at. Everyone dreams of staying at those cave hotels at Oia or Thira with their own private jacuzzis and caldeira views. But those are super expensive. If you don’t want to spend 500€ a night, it is still possible to stay in Santorini though. You just have to look for hotels/B&B’s outside the center of Oia and Thira and accept that you won’t get the caldeira view. I found 2 great places to stay at that were very affordable and at walking distance from the town centers of Oia and Thira, the two most popular places in Santorini.

Where to stay in Santorini on a budget

Ambelia Traditional Villas, Finikia

Price: 139€/night in June (breakfast incl.) (book here)

Ambelia Traditional Villas offers traditional cycladic cave houses in Finikia, a cute little town, 10 minutes walking from Oia. The houses are very spacious and fully equipped with kitchen and bathroom. Everything was very clean. In front you have a nice terrace where you can enjoy the sunrise. Breakfast is served at the pool and you can ask for a freshly made omelette (with ham and cheese mmmm). At night it was very silent, aside from the noise of cats fighting each other. The owners are the nicest people. The walk to Oia offered very nice views, so I didn’t mind the distance. If you don’t rent a car you can take the bus. It only takes about a 5 minute walk. I loved my stay here.

Galatia Villas, Thira

Price: 110€/night in June (book here)

Galatia Villas is located just outside Thira’s town center. The room was spacious with a kitchen and a small but clean bathroom. The pool isn’t big but I really enjoyed it. Breakfast wasn’t included, but you can make your own breakfast or have one at the many restaurants in the town center. If you rent a car you can park at the parking lot 200 m further.
